Dynamics of Single Droplet Splashing on Liquid Film by Coupling FVM with VOF

چکیده

A three-dimensional numerical study of a single droplet splashing vertically on liquid film is presented. The method based the finite volume (FVM) Navier–Stokes equations coupled with fluid (VOF) method, and adaptive local mesh refinement technology adopted. It enables liquid–gas interface to be tracked more accurately, less computationally expensive. relationship between diameter free rim, height crown different numbers collision Weber, thickness explored. results indicate that increases as Weber number increases, rim inversely proportional number. can also concluded dimensionless decreases increase in film, which has little effect during its growth.

Splashing Phenomena during Liquid Droplet Impact

Splashing is a phenomenon often observed during liquid droplet impact onto a solid surface. The threshold of splashing is known to be related to droplet size, impact velocity, and physical properties of the liquid, but the mechanisms that initiate splashing are not understood completely. In accordance with the Kelvin-Helmholtz (K-H) instability analysis, recent studies have shown that ambient g...

Effects of Liquid and Surface Properties on Droplet-Film Collision

The transition boundaries of various regimes characterizing the impact outcomes of a droplet upon a liquid layer of small thickness were investigated experimentally. With careful control of the film thickness, the onset of the regimes versus a Weber number, We, specifically when the film size is smaller than the droplet diameter, has been further clarified as compared to prior studies. Several ...

A Multi-Scale Study of Droplet Collision Dynamics: From Gas Film Lubrication to Liquid Phase Mixing

Binary droplet collision plays an elementary role in dense spray combustion. The collision outcome influences the spray characteristics, for example, the distributions of droplet size and velocity, local mixing rate, etc., and thus the overall combustion performance. In this paper, the dynamics and mixing of colliding droplets are preformed computationally and theoretically. All possible collis...

Numerical simulation of wavy falling film flow using VOF method

Surface wave dynamics of vertical falling films under monochromatic-frequency flowrate-forcing perturbations is computed by the direct simulation of Navier–Stokes equations using the Volume of Fluid (VOF) method to track free surfaces and the Continuum Surface Force (CSF) model to account for dynamic boundary conditions at free surfaces. The numerical VOF–CSF model is completely formulated, and...

Thin film formation during splashing of viscous liquids.

After impact onto a smooth dry surface, a drop of viscous liquid initially spreads in the form of a thick lamella. If the drop splashes, it first emits a thin fluid sheet that can ultimately break up into droplets causing the splash. Ambient gas is crucial for creating this thin sheet. The time for sheet ejection, t{ejt}, depends on impact velocity, liquid viscosity, gas pressure, and molecular...
